I immigrated to the United States in 1979 with my family, from Artiaga, Michocan, Mexico to Los Angeles. Shortly, upon residing in this large city, I was attending Fremont High School, located at the heart of Los Angeles. While attending Fremont High School, I was referred by a most influential instructor, Mrs. Moracas, to continue my high school education at the Otis School of Arts and Design and then subsequently to the Watts Towers Design Center.
Overburdened by the responsibilities of life, the opportunities of college when I was young were not pursued. Nonetheless, I continued to paint and have since been inspired and encouraged by local contemporary artists. I must greatly acknowledge the influence of Mr. Dan McCaw’s book, “A Proven Strategy for Creating Great Art,” also that of the work and seminars of Mr. Steve Houston, and their encouragement to expand and grow expression in painting.
